Seneca@York

This building for Seneca College on the York Campus is the first capital project to arise from an Ontario Government initiative towards partnering between colleges, universities, and the private sector. Seneca@York, won in a design competition, is an advanced technology campus that provides 4,000 students with a state-of-the-art learning opportunity.

The building, which houses the Schools of Communication Arts, Computer Studies, Biological Sciences, and Applied Chemistry, incorporates the newest electronic communications and network technology. In the Computer Commons, the highly visible hub of the campus, students have access to distance education programming and internet services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For faculty and students arriving and leaving in darkness during the winter months, natural light is a valuable commodity. Wide expanses of glass and uninterrupted vistas throughout the building flood Seneca@York with natural light. At night, carefully designed artificial light ensures that people feel secure and comfortable.
