The George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre is the cornerstone of Ryerson University's $100 million expansion plan. A state-of-the-art science and technology facility, the building will serve 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, and Civil Engineering, and the Department of Math, Physics, and Computer Science. Designed to establish Ryerson's presence in the newly transformed Yonge/Dundas neighbourhood in downtown Toronto the Centre maximizes the space available on its urban site. The intent is to create a building that is innovative, practical, and distinct, like the engineering faculty itself. The Church Street facade features a series of glazed panels that will respond to external lighting conditions with varying degrees of transparency and reflection, revealing the energy and activity of students inside. Even the 380-seat theatre is visible from Church Street. The building includes technology-enabled classrooms and lecture theatres, engineering and computer science laboratories, and specialized applied research facilities for both faculty and students. |
